Custom Swords

At Blankenshield we have been making fine swords for over thirty years.

Swords for extreme martial arts in particular. An extreme martial artist needs a sword that will last a lifetime of extreme use. And there is no excuse for anything less. There are swords in collections that have indisputable histories. Use in war in some cases for hundreds of years. We examined and replicated a claymore that had extensive family history and was in possession of the same family that had purchased it in the early sixteenth century. The original receipt and carry permits were still with the sword. That family recorded that swords use on war for well over two hundred years. The stories recall cutting men in half on the field of battle but more important the family tradition was that this great sword was mostly used in the field of war to cut down trees and make firewood and siege equipment. After over two centuries of cutting down trees the sword is still in perfect shape. Just as ready for war as when brand new. An extreme martial artist deserves nothing less. Even rapier style swords should withstand wood chopping and other heavy use. Accept nothing less. The sword testing outlined By Sir Richard Burten in his "BOOK OF THE SWORD" involves cutting into timbers, cutting limbs off trees, and cutting into heavy sheet metal. This testing standard was applied to thin rapier style blades and sabers. Nothing less is acceptable. The very concept of mil-spec started with British sword requirements. The first law relating to swords stated that a man put his weight into a sword stroke so a sword must support the weight of a man. So any combat ready sword absolutely must support two hundred pounds. In our case we put both ends of the blade on blocks and stand on it. If it springs back to true it is acceptable. Nothing less is acceptable.

We make sharps and combat blunts in any style and we replicate swords at the request of the customer. The more information you can get on the sword you desire replicated the more exact the replication. We also repair and restore antiques or modern swords.

All Blankenshield work is done as custom pieces. We keep no stock. Our product is not mass produced and we make no effort to compete with mass produced pieces.
