| The Blankenshield jousting saddle is a conversion
of a McClellan army saddle. The first piece to be added is the front arson.
The steel plate in the front of the saddle provides several things. Protection.
Leverage for the legs. And a Heavily rolled over hand grip at the top.

The rear arson is also carefully shaped. It
grasps and cradles the seat while spreading out into a flange to support
the weight of a rider pressing back into the saddle. |
| Both arsons are held in place by leather straps
through the accessory slots in the McClellan. The whole saddle cover can
be removed for maintenance, cleaning, or repairs. |
|
|
|
The arsons have rings affixed to them to hang
the various gear necessary for equestrian martial arts. |
| The most difficult part is the careful fitting
of the seat leather and stretching it into the form of the saddle seat.
It must not only cover the saddles seat it must reach all the way around
the inside of the arsons. A lot of leather to form and stretch. This is
a very specialized skill which takes very specialized tools. |
