The Lance

Raise your lance straight up and proudly.
Keep it there till you have need of it.
Fear the sloven who waves it about.
And who drapes it across his horses neck.
They will injure friend easier than foe and their conduct is rude and base.
Hold your lance freely and upright.
Dance with it as you ride.

Two full strides before the blow is set, upon the rising of the horse, arrest the lance.
The horse turned slightly as it runs, left shoulder to the fore.
Face slightly to the right.
Allow The lances deadly tip to drop a few degrees toward earth.
As the horse lowers in its stride let the butt of the lance raise up.
And catch it softly in the bite of the arm.
The lance held high and unwavering.
Never ever poke a lance.
Fear the lowborn lout that would hold his lance out straight toward your horses face as he runs.
He cares not for your horse or his own.

As the noble horse rises in its stride the eye fixes on the target.
The hand and heels adjust the speed and footfall.
Your horse must rise as the other falls when you set your lance.

At the top of the stride, one rhythm from impact, feuter the lance.
Grab it tight in the bite of the arm and grip it hard in hand.

Drop its fluid tip into your target as your mount rises.
At the last moment drop it straight into the target.
Do not drop it then aim it! That is a sign of a weak will and a lack of skill.
Each wobble before the strike is an insult to you and a danger to your opponents mount!
Drop your lance into your target.

As your mount rises, set your lance!
Changing your horses lead and shortening its stride.
Turning slightly into the target as you hit.
Put your lance tip where you want it and hold it there.
Push hard, following the rotation of your opponent .
Do not allow the tip to slip.

Drive your opponent!
Keep the lance tip on them.
Turning your horse as you drive them off of theirs.
Push them into the very earth.
