Simple Armour Stands |

This
stand is easily made from basic lumber. The support member is a four by
four glued and screwed to a plywood base with diagonal braces. The lag
screw at the top is to adjust the helmet height. Shelf brackets at the
hips hook into the buckles at the top of the leg armour. The shoulder
with two boards is for armours with no gorgets and the alternate shoulder
arrangement is for armours with gorgets. Use your own measurements to
make the stand. The width should be a couple inches narrower and the shoulder
height a couple inches lower than the armour wearers.

This
stand is very portable. Made from fairly heavy plywood the sections slide
together with the slots shown. At the hips are two wood screws to hold
the buckles at the top of the leg armour. The shoulder inserts are needed
for armours without gorget. Use the measurements of the armour wearer
to design the stand.

This stand is welded steel components. A harrow disk is used for the base. A pipe is used for the support member. Short pieces of pipe are welded at hip height to hold the leg armour. A small tab is left on the end and bent up to hold the buckle. Similar pipe units are welded at shoulder height to hold the gorget or a sheet steel cone is made and slightly flattened so hold the shoulders of the armour. Use the measurements of the armour wearer to design the stand. |
